3-Day College Bazaar Concludes Successfully at SRMIST



SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative and in association with the Chengalpattu District Administration, organized a vibrant 3-day College Bazaar from 30th July to 1st August 2025 at the SRMIST Tech Park premises.


🎉 Inauguration and Dignitaries

The event was formally inaugurated by:

  • Dr. Shivganesh Bhargava, Dean, School of Management, SRMIST

  • Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director – Campus Administration, SRMIST

  • Ms. Emilly Priya, Assistant Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, Chengalpattu District

Their presence set the tone for an impactful collaboration between academia, government, and rural communities.



🧺 Showcasing Rural Talent – SHG Participation

Women from various UBA–SRMIST adopted villages participated through Self Help Groups (SHGs), displaying an impressive variety of rural products:

  • 🌱 Nursery and garden items

  • 👗 Hand-stitched garments and fabrics

  • 🧼 Homemade herbal soaps

  • 🍬 Traditional sweets and snacks

  • 🎁 Eco-friendly handicrafts and household products

The campus community, especially students and faculty, enthusiastically supported the SHGs by purchasing their products and interacting directly with the women entrepreneurs.





🎓 Academic Support for Rural Entrepreneurship

During his address, Dr. Shivganesh Bhargava emphasized the importance of market linkages and sustainable rural businesses. He announced that the School of Management would soon launch training sessions in marketing and entrepreneurship for SHG members, enhancing their ability to scale and sustain their businesses.

The 3-day event successfully:

  • Created a strong platform for women’s economic empowerment

  • Encouraged direct consumer exposure for SHG products

  • Fostered institutional support for rural development

Dr. V. Thirumurugan is the Associate Director of Campus Administration at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST).

 Dr. V. Thirumurugan is the Associate Director of Campus Administration at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST). Beyond his administrative duties, Dr. Thirumurugan is an active researcher in civil engineering, with a focus on infilled reinforced concrete (RC) frames.  The PM-Vidyalakshmi scheme is an initiative by the Government of India to provide a single-window platform for students seeking education loans and scholarships. It is designed to simplify the process of applying for financial assistance for higher education.


Key Features of the PM-Vidyalakshmi Scheme

  1. Education Loan Portal:

    • Centralized platform to apply for education loans from multiple banks.

    • Integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakram (PMVLK).

விளையாட்டு மைதானத்தில் ஒரு சிறுவன் அடிபட்டதைப் பார்த்து, அருகில் இருந்த பெரியவர் குப்பைமேனி இலையை அரைத்து காயத்திற்கு பூசினார். எனக்கு ஆச்சரியமாக இருந்தது. ஏன் ஆன்டிபயாட்டிக் மருந்து இல்லாமல் இலை மட்டுமே பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு இருந்தது? என்ற என் கேள்விக்கு, அந்தப் பெரியவர் இதை விளக்கினார்.

"குப்பைமேனி என்றால் பயன்படாதது என்று நினைப்பது தவறு. உண்மையில் இது பல்வேறு நோய்களுக்கு சிறந்த மருந்தாக செயல்படுகிறது. கிருமிநாசினி, ஆன்டி-பயாடிக், வீக்கத்தைக் குறைக்கும் தன்மை போன்ற பல மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இதில் உள்ளன. சிறு காயங்களுக்கு இந்த இலையைப் பயன்படுத்தினால் விரைவில் குணமடையும்."
